Built in 1652 Cumberland Lodge has played host to many of the great personalities and events in English history since.Perhaps every monarch from Charles II onwards has walked its corridors.It has been home to Princes and Princesses, Dukes, Duchesses and Earls.Illustrious people from Voltaire to the Tsar and Tsarina of Russia, to Wagner have visited.It is truly a house buried in history and romance.
On Monday 15th March 2010 eminent historians will talk about the Lodge, its surroundings and inhabitants from the 17th Century Civil War to the 20th Century abdication crisis and then the change from a country house to Cumberland Lodge as the Foundation it is today.Confirmed speakers include Hon Lady Roberts, Professor Justin Campion, Ophelia Field, Dr Christopher Duffy, Judith Poore, Hugo Vickers, Philip Ziegler, Walter James and Sir Roger Young.
The conference will run from 9.30am – 5.30pm and the registration fee of £45 includes lunch and tea and a tour of Cumberland Lodge.

Please note that the conference will be followed by a separate, but associated, event: A Cumberland Conversation with Lady Antonia Fraser about her life with Harold Pinter. This in turn will be followed by a Gala Dinner. A registration form for both events is downloadable above.
