Beyond Memory

An exhibition of paintings and sculptures by Trevor Edmands

Trevor Edmands is an exceptional artist. He has had a major exhibition in the City Art Gallery in his native Leeds, as well as exhibitions in America, Italy, Scotland and Ireland, with an exhibition about to be mounted in Japan. He is, however, comparatively little known here in England. This is possibly because, after nearly all his early work was accidentally destroyed, he delayed exhibiting for some years, and has never courted the London art establishment. He has, however received high praise from those who know his work. One English critic has referred to him as, ‘one of the most interesting artists working in Britain today’; whilst an American critic who wrote: ‘Trevor Edmands is, among other things, a British contemporary Expressionist’, went on to describe one of his paintings as, ‘the single best Expressionist works of art I have seen by a living artist. ’Moreover, the established Irish painter, Hughie O’Donoghue, when asked which living artist had influenced him most, named Trevor Edmands.

Trevor works as a sculptor as well as a painter, and the two media are frequently fused in his pieces, which are often also notable for their imaginative use of materials.
