Correspondent, Guardian and Observer

Christian Davies has worked as a foreign correspondent based in Warsaw for the Guardian and Observer since 2016. He has also written for the New Statesman, Foreign Policy, Politico Europe, and Tablet Magazine, and he is a regular columnist for Gazeta Wyborcza, a leading Polish broadsheet. Before journalism, he worked as a parliamentary researcher in the House of Commons for Sir Malcolm Rifkind, a former UK foreign and defence secretary then serving as Chairman of the Intelligence and Security Committee of Parliament. He has also worked as a ministerial advisor in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland. He graduated with a history degree from University College London in 2009, and with a Masters’ degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics in 2011. Specialising in issues of historical memory and contemporary threats to the rule of law, he is a co-founder with the Galicia Jewish Museum in Kraków of the inaugural Chris Schwarz Memorial Art Award, which is designed to foster mutual understanding in Polish-Jewish relations, and received a commendation from the judges of the World Justice Project’s Anthony Lewis Prize for Exceptional Rule of Law Journalism in 2018.
