Daren Bowyer joined the Gurkha Museum as Director in October 2020.

He served for 26 years as an officer in the Royal Engineers, including operationally in the Gulf, Balkans and Afghanistan.  Exercises and engineering projects also took him to Kenya, Cyprus, Germany, Denmark, the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and Belize.  His staff appointments included the Ministry of Defence, British Embassy Washington and on the Directing Staff of the Royal Military College of Science. He commanded Cambridge University Officers Training Corps.

Leaving the Army in 2008 to pursue a second career in charity and educational leadership, Daren’s appointments have included Home Bursar at Pembroke College, Oxford, Director of the Sandhurst Trust, Chief Executive of the Newbury and District Agricultural Society and, latterly, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Chief Executive at Cumberland Lodge.

His academic credentials are BA (Hons) in Philosophy (Bristol) an MA in Defence Management (Cranfield), MPhil in International Relations (Cambridge)  and PhD in military ethics (Cranfield).

From 2014-2019 he was County Commandant of the Army Cadet Force in Oxfordshire. He is Vice-Chairman of the English Speaking Union, Oxfordshire Branch, and Chairman of OIBC, a science education charity. He was elected to Fellowship of the Royal Society of Arts in 2019 and non-Regimental Membership of the Honourable Artillery Company in 2020.
