Jagdev Singh Virdee is the General Secretary of Guru Nanak Darbar Gurdwara in Gravesend, one of the largest Gurdwaras in the country. He has been involved with the Gurdwara in various voluntary roles for over 20 years.
By profession, Jagdev is a statistician and an expert in official statistics, with extensive experience in the British and European Official Statistics Systems. Since 2017 he has been the Editor of the British Sikh Report, based on an annual survey of Sikhs living in Britain. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Sikh Assembly.
Jagdev worked in the UK Government Statistical Service for over 30 years, retiring in 2010. Since then, Jagdev has helped with major projects related to official statistics in many countries around the world. In recent years he has supported projects on official statistics on behalf of UNICEF, UNHABITAT, UNESCAP, the European Union and OECD, supporting the measurement of countries’ progress against the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Jagdev has also worked with the UK Statistics Authority and the Royal Statistical Society (RSS). He is a Fellow of the RSS, a member of the UK National Statistics Advisory Group, the UK Statistics User Forum, the International Development Working Group, the Diversity, Equality and Inclusion Working Group, and is Chair of the Organising Committee on RSS Awards for Excellence in Official Statistics.
