Juliet John (FRSA, FEA) is Vice President Education at City, University of London and Professor of English Literature. She was previously Hildred Carlile Chair of English Literature at Royal Holloway, University of London, Head of English and the founding Head of the School of Humanities. She is an internationally renowned Dickensian and is particularly interested in the relationship between Dickens and popular culture from his own time to ours. Among her books are Dickens’s Villains: Melodrama, Character, Popular Culture (Oxford University Press, 2001) and Dickens and Mass Culture (2010). She is currently completing, with Claire Wood, The Edinburgh Companion to Charles Dickens and the Arts (forthcoming, 2023). She is an academic advisor to the Charles Dickens Museum in Bloomsbury.
