Nahid Shahalimi lives in Munich, Germany, with her two daughters. She was forced to leave Afghanistan with her family in 1985, being raised in Canada before moving to Munich later in life.
After supporting Afghan women and girls for over two decades, Nahid started travelling across Afghanistan in 2011 to collect stories of hope and courage from women across the country. These were compiled into her book Where Courage Bears the Soul: We the Women of Afghanistan, published in 2017.
Nahid currently works with high-ranking officials and steering committees for Afghan Women Defenders and recently authored Wir Sind Noch Da!, a bestseller featuring the first-hand accounts of Afghan women experts following the fall of Kabul in the summer of 2021.
