Sarah Spain is an Assistant Director with the Home Office National Transfer Team.  She is the national Children’s Social Care lead for unaccompanied asylum seeking children. Supporting the safe transfer of newly arrived children in the UK, from one local authority to another. 

Sarah is a qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England. She has 20+ years frontline children’s safeguarding experience both as a practitioner and manager. She recently made the move from local authority Children’s Social Care to the Home Office following a four-year secondment with the South East Strategic Partnership for Migration. Sarah led the South East Controlling Migration Fund Project, delivering a range of training sessions across the region including age assessment and modern slavery, along with collaborating on the development, piloting and publishing of the Planning Star; a UASC specific assessment tool published by Triangle the consulting social enterprise behind the Outcomes Star. 

Sarah is the Children’s Social Care lead for Op Innerste. Working alongside Police, Immigration and the Independent Child Trafficking Guardian Service (ICTG) to support national engagement in a multi-agency response to safeguarding and improving outcomes for migrant children.  

Sarah has three adult children; she lives in Sussex with her partner a retired Child Protection Police Officer, her three children all work in public services.
