Sue joined the CPS in 1988 and worked in CPS Cambridgeshire until October 2000 before joining the Casework Directorate in CPS Headquarters. In September 2002, Sue took over the team which prosecuted terrorism and she was made the Head of the new Counter Terrorism Division when it was created in April 2005.
Sue took on the role as Head of the expanded Special Crime and Counter Terrorism Division in April 2011. She had overall national responsibility for terrorism, incitement to hatred, official secrets and war crimes; the Unit dealing with Supreme Court and Court of Appeal cases, Victims Right to Review and unduly lenient sentences; and extradition, deaths in custody, police corruption, prosecution of politicians, assisted suicide and corporate and medical manslaughter.
Sue has worked on many large, complex terrorism cases and she has led a number of complex special crime cases including the senior leadership of the Hillsborough cases since the Hillsborough Independent Panel Report in October 2012.
In August 2018, Sue became one of the Directors of Legal Services responsible for line management of our senior legal leaders. She provides support to the DPP in delivering high-quality casework and is part of the Executive Team.
