David Bean was called to the Bar by Middle Temple in 1976, appointed a QC in 1997 and elected Chair of the Bar Council in 2002.

He was appointed a High Court judge (Queen’s Bench Division) in 2004 and promoted to be a Lord Justice of Appeal in 2014. He was Chair of the Law Commission of England and Wales from 2015-18 and Treasurer (non-executive president) of Middle Temple in 2019.

His interests include opera, hill walking and books.
