This week is National Apprenticeship Week 2017 and we are proud to introduce our three young apprentices, working in different areas of the Lodge.
Oscar Black, 19, from Ascot (pictured left), joined us in the autumn of 2016. He studies one day a week towards his Maintenance Operations apprenticeship at East Berkshire College, Langley, spending the rest of the week here at Cumberland Lodge.
He said: "My apprenticeship covers a wide variety of maintenance work, from brickwork and plumbing to tiling and decorating. No two days at the Lodge are ever the same. I'm due to finish my course in July 2018.
"It's been really interesting so far. I get exposure to lots of things I'd never have thought of doing, like brickwork, and it's useful getting the theoretical grounding from College whilst learning hands-on skills every day at work. It's a good contrast."
Meanwhile, Beth Smith, 19, from Pooley Green (pictured centre), first joined our Dining Room team in November 2013, working evenings only. She went on to join our core team and for the past year she has been working towards a Hospitality, Food and Beverages apprenticeship here, through Babcock, the national online apprenticeship provider.
Ryan McGee, 20, from Windsor (pictured right), also joined us in 2013, as a Kitchen Porter. The following year he joined our chefs and started an NVQ Level 3 qualification in Catering with Westminster Kingsway College, as part of his training.
Ed Newell, our Principal, said: "We're pleased to be supporting apprenticeships here at Cumberland Lodge, and our experiences over the last few years have been very positive.
"Our apprentices work across the organisation, supporting both our commercial venue hire clients and our charitable work. We benefit from their grounding in the latest ideas and techniques through their studies outside of work, as well as their practical input and loyalty while they learn on the job.
"Our apprentices have a strong work ethic and are each keen to progress in their careers, which we are pleased to be able to support them with."
