Cumberland Lodge is once again offering an unique opportunity for PhD students to apply for and run a colloquium.
A Cumberland Lodge Colloquium provides PhD students or early career researchers with an opportunity to develop a conference from scratch with guidance and mentoring from the experts at Cumberland Lodge.
Over the past three years Cumberland Lodge has supported eight colloquia covering diverse topics ranging from challenges posed by advances in biotechnology, the corporate responsibility to protect human rights, whether the car has an ethical and sustainable future, and how discourses of religious otherness can be challenged to build a more inclusive society. For this year’s colloquium, we particularly welcome applications that relate to social cohesion, multiculturalism or conflict resolution.
The experience of developing and running a Cumberland Lodge Colloquium is held in high regard by former participants. John Gardener, the organiser of ‘From the classroom to the clinic’ colloquium commented “Cumberland Lodge taught us how to successfully organise a high quality event. Running this conference has given me a great deal of confidence and furthermore being involved in this project looks great on my CV”.
This is a fantastic opportunity to design a colloquium that will help shape the debate on a contemporary issue of ethical importance. The closing date for applications is Thursday 19 November 2015.
