John has been actively involved in social mobility since founding the successful Cambridge University Shadowing Scheme in 1999. Since joining upReach as CEO in January 2016, the charity has won multiple national awards for their impact boosting social mobility. During that time, the team has increased 5 to over 70 full-time employees, providing a more personalised, comprehensive and impactful programme of support to students in close partnership with employers, universities and the third sector.
Prior to joining upReach, John spent 11 years in investment banking, and as a Lead Practitioner, taught Maths and Economics in state and independent schools.
A charity trustee for seven years, John is also a marathon runner, having completed the distance in all seven continents.
