Cumberland Lodge offers two bursary schemes, one aimed at providing free places for students with limited financial means or representatives of not-for-profit organisations to attend our own conferences, and another to support students with attending study retreats organised by visiting higher education institutions.
The number of bursaries we offer varies each year, according to demand. In 2014/15 we awarded 60 bursaries, and in 2015/16 we awarded 35, including 24 bursaries for students joining study retreats and 10 for individuals to attend our conferences.

We offer bursaries to support PhD students working in relevant fields with the costs of travelling to and from conferences at Cumberland Lodge. This is available in the form of a contribution towards reasonable travel expenses.

Study retreat bursaries
For visiting study retreat groups, the number of bursaries available depends on the number of students in the group, and where there are more applicants than available places, partial bursaries will often be awarded.
For a group of 15-25 students we offer one free place, for groups of 26-50 students we offer up to two free places, and for groups of over 50 we offer up to three free places, according to the financial circumstances of participants. The awards are intended to help students with limited financial means to join a visiting group.
