Recently, Cumberland Lodge delivered a two-day foreign policy conference as part of the British Academy's Early Career Regional Events scheme, in partnership with Royal Holloway, University of London.

'The event was funded by a British Academy grant awarded jointly to Royal Holloway and Cumberland Lodge, and every element of the event was arranged in close partnership.

'Throughout the process, I was struck by the complete professionalism and attention to detail of the whole team at the Lodge. The logistical and intellectual support was really outstanding throughout.

'As a geographer, I encourage my students to consider the ways in which ‘places’ produce atmospheres, set moods, and even influence the way we think and act. Cumberland Lodge is a case in point.

'This grand building in the middle of Windsor Great Park exudes a very special atmosphere – it seems to encourage conversation and dialogue; it relaxes and enlivens and invites guests to feel at home. Our conference was certainly lively – sparky, at times – and yet always productive, convivial and thought provoking. I am enormously grateful to the Lodge, and the incredible team who power it, for creating that atmosphere and helping to energise our minds.'
