Ana & James Christie
"James and I had the most amazing wedding day! It really was above and beyond what we could have dreamt of. Everybody … has commented on how wonderful, helpful and generally superlative all the staff at Cumberland Lodge were, how beautiful setting and how gorgeous a house."
Anne & Martin Akery
"It is an amazing venue, especially for guests staying overnight with a variety of rooms, all with individual character and views over the park. All arrangements went like clockwork. Many of our guests said it was the best wedding they had ever been to.
All the staff were so helpful and seemed to enjoy the day as much as we did and we can’t thank them enough for making our day so special – we would certainly recommend this as a venue for any wedding."
Dr Alasdair Pinkerton, Royal Holloway,University of London
The event was funded by a British Academy grant awarded jointly to Royal Holloway and Cumberland Lodge, and every element of the event was arranged in close partnership. Throughout the process, I was struck by the complete professionalism and attention to detail of the whole team at the Lodge. The logistical and intellectual support was really outstanding throughout.
As a geographer, I encourage my students to consider the ways in which ‘places’ produce atmospheres, set moods, and even influence the way we think and act. Cumberland Lodge is a case in point. This grand building in the middle of Windsor Great Park exudes a very special atmosphere – it seems to encourage conversation and dialogue; it relaxes and enlivens and invites guests to feel at home. Our conference was certainly lively – sparky, at times – and yet always productive, convivial and thought provoking. I am enormously grateful to the Lodge, and the incredible team who power it, for creating that atmosphere and helping to energise our minds.
Dr Tom Fowler, Public Health England
"Cumberland Lodge was a place to try out ideas, I can think of nothing more important."
Iain Thomson, Board Secretary, British Film Institute
"As a venue, Cumberland Lodge offers a peaceful environment and is in an extremely tranquil setting – which is a very important factor. Furthermore, the history associated with the Lodge adds to its charm and serves to enhance the overall experience. In addition, the team are exceptional and entirely accommodating in every respect. "
Luke Rittner, Chief Executive, Royal Academy of Dance
"In my capacity as Chief Executive I have now organised three conferences at Cumberland Lodge over the last four years. Two of these have been small Board retreats and one an international meeting with over 60 delegates from around the world. All three gatherings have been a great success and I have no doubt whatsoever that Cumberland Lodge with its unique atmosphere, superb staff and first class facilities played a vital role in ensuring that success. Cumberland Lodge however is much more than a professional team and excellent facilities because it has a very special and almost undefinable atmosphere which seems to encourage discussion and provoke thought in a way that very few ordinary conference venues are able to do. In short, I can think of nowhere that I would rather spend a few days trying to make sense of the challenges that face all of us in these complex and difficult times."
Sara Thornton, Head of National Police Chiefs’ Council
"I have been attending the Cumberland Lodge police conference for about ten years and I can honestly say that it is one of the highlights of my professional year. Great speakers and thoughtful, interesting colleagues make for stimulating conversations in a wonderful setting. Running a police force can be quite frenetic and it is hugely valuable to find a space to think"
