Transcript of the Cumberland Lodge Lecture on 'The Arrow of History?', delivered by Daniel Finkelstein on 31 May 2017
Lord (Daniel) Finkelstein delivered our 70th anniversary Cumberland Lodge Lecture on 'The Arrow of History?' to an invited audience of about 60 guests.
An audio recording of the lecture, including audience questions and an introduction by our Chair of Trustees, Sir Stephen Wall, has already been published.
For those who prefer to read the content of the lecture, we are also providing a pdf transcript of the main lecture, in which Daniel outlines his concept of 'the arrow of history' in relation to human psychology and the 'fairness norm', the rise of new technologies, the looming 'battle over globalisation', the recent Brexit vote in the UK and the election of Donald Trump as President of the USA, mass media and the re-alignment of political power, and changes we can expect in the near future.
The event was also live-streamed on our Facebook page.
