We spend 12 minutes in the inspiring company of Ruth Scott, who worked as a mediator in conflict resolution for many years and is also a regular contributor to conferences and events at Cumberland Lodge.

She talks about the challenges of hate crime and what makes communities more divisive, the role of education in building more peaceful and tolerant societies, sources of mistrust and prejudice in society and how dialogue can help to overcome them, and the differences between tolerance and respect.

This recording was made in March 2017, as part of our series of podcasts to mark the 70th anniversary of Cumberland Lodge as an educational foundation.
