Cumberland Lodge has two scholarship programmes, the Amy Buller PhD Scholarship and our Cumberland Lodge Scholarships for doctoral students.
Amy Buller PhD Scholarship
This three-year scholarship designed to give an outstanding researcher the opportunity to study for a PhD at Royal Holloway, University of London, and to be involved in our work with students by helping to host weekend study retreats. The first Amy Buller Scholar, Katherine O’Lone, joined us in 2014, and our current Scholar, Amber Pierce, took up post in September 2017. Find out more about our Amy Buller Scholarship here.
Cumberland Lodge Scholarships
These two-year scholarships are open to doctoral students from any university in the UK. We recruit up to seven scholars per academic year and the successful applicants are mentored by our staff and given the chance to get involved in our inter-disciplinary programme of conferences, lectures, seminars and retreats over two years. Find out more about our Cumberland Lodge Scholarships and how to apply, here.
Since 2017 we have selected one of our annual intake of scholars through the Council for At-Risk Academics (Cara) scheme, which supports academics at risk of persecution, discrimination or violence to work in safety in the UK until they can return to their home countries. Find out more about this collaboration here.
