Retreats and conferences

Cumberland Lodge is the perfect place to host your retreats, conferences, and bespoke events.

Student retreats and conferences

Every year, thousands of young people come to Cumberland Lodge from higher education institutions across the UK, for study retreats and summer schools. Delegates from the Inns of Court and NHS vocational training schemes also attend Cumberland Lodge as a part of their continuing professional education.

As well as being intellectually and professionally stimulating, Cumberland Lodge study retreats allow attendees to interact with each other in ways that are not always possible within other settings. Many university departments have been visiting for decades, and their gatherings have become a much-valued tradition.

Our accommodation is intentionally ‘low-tech’, to help students get away from their screens and mobile devices. Our grounds give students the space to reflect, unwind and spend time with their fellow guests.

Exploring Ethics

We strongly encourage all visiting groups to incorporate a Cumberland Lodge-facilitated Exploring Ethics session into their study retreat programme. These group discussion sessions are designed to help students reflect critically on ethical, moral and social issues.

Meetings, courses, and away-days

Cumberland Lodge also provides a private and exclusive setting for small meetings and away-days.

We offer a range of flexible meeting spaces. The Amy Buller Library and adjoining Windsor Room each have sweeping parkland views. We also have fully equipped seminar and board rooms in The Mews Conference Centre, including Sandby and Hodgson.

Known for its seclusion and stimulating surroundings, Cumberland Lodge has long been the choice of executive teams and training providers for focused residential events or shorter meetings and seminars.

We offer full audio-visual support to enhance your events, catering for hybrid and live-streamed events.
