Resource type: Video

Recording of the live Cumberland Conversation with broadcaster and presenter Martin Stanford, from the studio at Cumberland Lodge. This Conversation took place on Wednesday 28 April 2021.

Martin is a former BBC News and Sky News presenter who covered many of the biggest breaking news stories of the last 30 years or more, from the Gulf War, Iraq War and Israel-Lebanon conflict to the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, the Boxing Day tsunami in the Indian Ocean, Hurricane Katrina, successive general elections, and the whale stranded in the River Thames. He has presented on many of the regional BBC radio stations and every weekday morning on LBC News 24.

He speaks candidly to our Chief Executive, Dr Ed Newell, about presenting the news and some of the biggest stories he covered, offering insights into the world of broadcasting, how to get started with a career in news reporting, and recent trends affecting the industry. This Conversation took place online, due to pandemic restrictions, with questions coming from our live audience.
