Our anniversary conference explored some of the controversies surrounding the historical analysis of 1930s extremism, and sought to understand the causes of extremism today by examining the issues from economic, social, psychological and ideological perspectives.
Sir John Laws delivered the following address at the conference as part of the session 'Legislating for Tolerance'.
Lord Justice Laws practised at the Common Law Bar from 1971 to 1992. He was First Junior Treasury Counsel (Common Law) from 1984 to 1992. He was admitted to the Bar of New South Wales in 1987 and Gibraltar in 1988. Since 1997 he has been a Judicial Visitor at UCL. He was appointed an Honorary Fellow of Robinson College in 1992, and an Honorary Fellow of Exeter College, Oxford in 2000. His recreations include Greece, living in London and philosophy.
Sir John has been a Visitor to Cumberland Lodge since 2004.
