Join us in Windsor Great Park for this year's Commonwealth and International Student Christmas Conference, our longest-standing tradition at Cumberland Lodge.
International students based at UK universities are invited to take part in three days of stimulating cross-cultural and interdisciplinary discussions on the theme of 'Covid-19 & Education', and to experience traditional festive celebrations in welcoming surroundings.
Our first gathering of international students at Cumberland Lodge took place over 70 years ago, in December 1947, shortly after King George VI granted us use of the building as an inclusive space for people of all backgrounds and perspectives to exchange views on pressing societal and ethical issues.
Last year, amid pandemic restrictions, the conference went online for the first time in its history and we were joined by 33 students from 18 countries, representing 19 universities. This year, we are returning to our normal physical format, whilst maintaining a considered and vigilant approach to the pandemic.
This relaxed and informal conference takes place at Cumberland Lodge, a stunning 17th-century, former royal residence in the heart of Windsor Great Park. We are within easy reach of London's major railway stations and airports, and we offer renowned food and home-from-home hospitality.
This year’s programme features workshops led by guest speakers and facilitators on the right to education, the rise of online learning during the pandemic, and interdisciplinary working for solving complex challenges.
As part of the programme you will also have the chance to experience elements of a traditional British Christmas, including:
- A Christmas carol service in the Royal Chapel of All Saints
- A winter trail through Windsor Great Park
- A traditional Christmas dinner, with a visit from Father Christmas
- Festive evening games and entertainment
- Cumberland Lodge is close to attractions such as The Savill Garden, Virginia Water, and The Long Walk (which offers a spectacular view of Windsor Castle), and there is ample opportunity for walking, running and wildlife-spotting in the Great Park.
Our 2021 guest speakers will be announced shortly.

What people are saying
Here is what some of the international students who joined our more recent Christmas conference at Cumberland Lodge, in 2019, had to say:
‘Fabulous fun Christmas conference! The atmosphere was wonderful, really warm, inclusive and very inspiring. Even though I came by myself it did not matter as the entire program was brilliantly planned. There was even a visit from Father Christmas during our delicious Christmas dinner! Thank you Cumberland Lodge!’
‘Amazing experience. I massively enjoyed meeting people from different backgrounds, perspectives and even talents!! sharing and discussing with them the topics the conference held was useful indeed.’
There are two ticket options this year, both of which include accommodation in one of our individually designed, historic rooms, plus all meals and the full programme of events and activities:
- £150 - Single accommodation
- £100 - Shared accommodation (twin room)
