Join us on Tuesday 2 October to hear Tony Laithwaite, of Laithwaite's Wines, in conversation with our COO and Deputy Principal, Daren Bowyer.
Tony Laithwaite, started a home-delivery wine business in 1969, after working as a bottle washer in the vineyards of Bordeaux as a student. Originally called Bordeaux Direct, there were five wines on the list, and 150 customers. In the 1970s, he was the first UK merchant to source bottled wine from Languedoc-Rousillon (southern France), and Cabernet from Bulgaria.
In 2010, Tony Laithwaite was presented with the opportunity to plant a vineyard in Windsor Great Park. Tony grew up and went to school in the area and had started his business under the railway arches that looked up at Windsor Castle. With this connection, he simply could not refuse the chance!
Hear how Tony grew his home delivery business into Laithwaite’s Wines and the journey his passion for sharing quality wine has taken him on.
