Young men and women are together facing a world filled with political uncertainty and concerns about identity. But research has shown that they are diverging in attitudes towards feminism, masculinity and gender equality. The Netflix show Adolescence caused a huge response with its portrayal of the potentially violent and devastating consequences of these disagreements – but there is much more to this story.

What’s really going on with boys and girls? How much should we blame social media? And what do these changing attitudes about masculinity and gender mean for democracy?

Join The Conversation UK and Cumberland Lodge’s Youth and Democracy project for a discussion of the issues and how young people are navigating them today.

Our speakers will include:

  • Michael Richardson, Senior Lecturer in Human Geography, Newcastle University
  • Sophie Lively, Newcastle University
  • Young people from NE Youth

Tickets cost £10 (£5 concessions) including light refreshments, and can be booked via our free community engagement platform, Circle, here: https://go.cumberlandlodge.ac.uk/YMPD2025
