Cumberland Lodge isn’t just the name of a building – the historic home gave its name to a social enterprise that has been here for over 70 years. Our main work is with students and young people, fostering ideas and understanding of ethical leadership, critical thinking and dialogue and understanding across generations and backgrounds. Hiring a meeting room directly funds and supports this work – and we can bring this experience of bringing people together and fostering conversation and exchange of ideas to create the perfect atmosphere for your meeting or event.

When hosting educational retreats, we’re all about being “low-tech” so that students are able to disconnect from their devices and reconnect with themselves, others, and nature. We always encourage those booking our facilities and spaces for other purposes to try this approach and make the most of our unique surroundings.  

Of course, we appreciate that the modern world – and modern business especially – relies on connectivity. We embrace technology as a working tool. Depending on the size, our meetings rooms all feature either built-in audio-visual and display equipment or can have it provided on request. They’re all well-served with power points, data connections and WiFi.

Our rooms range from fully equipped 100-person conference rooms with theatre-style seating to compact office-style rooms and breakout spaces. We also have a working library, a historic chapel, a classic sitting room and even a self-contained Georgian house with its own suite of meeting rooms, accommodation and kitchen.

At Cumberland Lodge, we offer more than a meeting room. We have 58 en-suite bedrooms spread between the Lodge itself and our Mews Conference Centre, so if you’re holding a meeting or event across more than one day – or even one long day – your people have somewhere to rest and recharge without leaving the site. It’s more pleasant for them and easier for you as the organiser. 

We also have spaces that can be made available for socialising, from our Drawing Room and Tapestry Hall to the terrace and lawn, and even a dedicated Wilderness meeting/relaxing space in the woods. And we have three dining rooms, capable of accommodating groups of all sizes, and an in-house catering team. They can provide everything from tea and biscuits to a full multi-course meal.
