Cumberland Lodge announces vision to build a new generation of 5,000 leaders

At a time when 85 percent of the public believe Britain is divided, Cumberland Lodge is calling for renewed investment in young leaders who can help rebuild trust and cohesion.

The educational charity and social enterprise based in Windsor has unveiled an ambitious plan to develop 5,000 young leaders over the next five years through its educational programmes.

Through critical thinking, peer to peer learning and courageous conversations, the charity is equipping emerging leaders with the empathy, resilience and insight needed to confront the roots of division. These young people are drawn from diverse backgrounds, disciplines and beliefs.

Commenting on the plan, Fergus Drake OBE, Chief Executive Officer, Cumberland Lodge, said:

‘We’re acting now because the urgency could not be greater. If we fail to invest in a generation that truly understand the causes and consequences of social conflict, the fractures we see today will become the fault lines of tomorrow.

‘Our work at Cumberland Lodge is about equipping young leaders with the empathy, critical thinking and courage needed to bridge divides and rebuild trust. Our ambition to develop 5,000 young leaders is a call to action: to believe again that leadership can heal, that dialogue can transform, and that hope, nurtured in the young, can change the course of nations.’

To demonstrate its commitment to this renewed ambition, Cumberland Lodge has launched a new film highlighting its work and programmes.

The video offers an introduction to the organisation and serves as a call to action. It captures the spirit of its work and its goal to develop 5,000 young leaders over five years.

Cumberland Lodge has already laid strong foundations for this vision by placing young people at the centre of its work and creating environments where they can examine complex questions, exchange perspectives and build the skills needed for ethical leadership.
