Part of the front cover of the Cumberland Lodge Impact Report 2019-20

Cumberland Lodge has published an Impact Report summarising its work and impact over 12 months from 1 September 2019 to 31 August 2020, spanning six months before the full impact of the COVID-19 pandemic was felt in the UK, and six months during which we were closed to visiting groups we rely on for the majority of our income.

This Impact Report features a Foreword from our Chair of Trustees, The Rt Hon the Baroness Prashar of Runnymede, and an annual review from our Chief Executive, Edmund Newell. It includes case-studies and testimonies from a wide range of people who were supported by our programmes in 2019-20, as well as feedback from our conference trade guests and group leaders.

We also describe our main activities from the year, including report launches, cross-sector conferences and consultations, panel discussions and webinars, and our work in nurturing students and young people with the potential to become future leaders and influencers, working towards more peaceful, open and inclusive societies.

Our Finance Director & Assistant Chief Executive, Linda Webber, provides an overview of our financial situation in 2019-20, and there are details of how people can support us to expand and develop our work further.

As our Chair of Trustees writes in her Foreword to the report: ‘Crises of the kind we are now facing often amplify the qualities of individuals and organisations. What struck me particularly, in 2020, was the tenacity, agility and calmness of the staff and my fellow trustees in dealing with the challenges that the pandemic poses.

‘I am grateful to everyone who has contributed to safeguarding the future of this important institution, this year, and confident that these qualities will not only see us through the present crisis but enable us to grow and flourish in whatever our ‘new normal’ world will be.’
