Cumberland Lodge is seeking people to get involved in its expanding network of volunteers, in a variety of different roles.

Founded in 1947, we specialise in embracing ‘difficult conversations’ and ‘disagreeing well’, by bringing together leaders, influencers, students and young people for candid conversations on pressing social and ethical issues.

Our work is based in a beautiful 17th-century house that was granted to us in 1947 by King George VI and Queen Elizabeth (The Queen Mother).

As part of our charitable mission, we host a diverse and exciting programme of events throughout the year, including cultural and educational events for the local community.

New opportunities

There are currently opportunities for people with relevant skills and experience to volunteer by:

  • Providing administrative support to the staff team
  • Helping to organise our library or archive collections
  • Taking on a more public-facing role in welcoming guests to events such as public talks and open days.

Our volunteers network is now co-ordinated by Peter Symonds, who is himself a volunteer. Peter lives and works in Windsor and has a keen interest in history. He spent many years managing volunteers for the National Trust at Petworth, in West Sussex.

Peter said, ‘Volunteering with Cumberland Lodge is a really rewarding experience. It’s a fascinating place, full of history and remarkable stories, and it has an important role to play in inspiring fresh thinking and bringing people together to talk about issues that affect us all.’

‘This is an exciting time for our volunteers network. People are at the heart of the mission here. It’s a friendly place, where volunteers are very much part of the team, helping to ensure that as many people as possible can experience and contribute to the valuable work that we do.’
