Favour Borokini

Cumberland Lodge Fellow, 2023-25

Hello, I’m Favour, a Horizon Centre for Doctoral Training PhD student at the University of Nottingham School of Law. I’m researching afro-feminist ethics concerns in the design and use of avatars in the School.

After completing my law degree in Nigeria, I worked in technology policy research with various organisations in Africa. I was primarily interested in the impact of both subsisting and emerging technologies like AI on women’s lives and gender equality, as well as the impact of these technologies on Africa. I led the African women in AI project with Pollicy, a Ugandan non-profit as a Data and Digital Rights researcher, drawing on my legal training.

These experiences influence my current research, and I’m keen on proactively exploring better futures with and through technology, especially for African women, who are underrepresented in these studies.

For fun, I enjoy fantasy and romance and travelling to imaginary worlds.
