Hello, I am Serhat, a PhD researcher in Politics and International Studies at SOAS University of London. My research explores China’s partial deindustrialisation and its impact on politics and global value chains.
I studied in Turkey, completing a double BA in Political Science and International Relations and Chinese Language and Literature, before earning a Master’s in International Relations at Peking University.
Having lived and studied in three countries, I draw on diverse perspectives in my work. Outside academia, I enjoy films, documentaries, and history.
A phrase I first encountered at Peking University — “embrace challenges, seize opportunities” — continues to guide me, and reflects why I value Cumberland Lodge as a place to listen, reflect, and grow through shared dialogue.
