Siyi is a PhD candidate at the University of Sheffield. Prior to studying for her doctorate in the department of sociological studies, she received a Bachelor’s Degree in Digital Media from Hohai University, China, and a Masters Degree in Global Media and Communication from the University of Leicester.

Siyi’s doctoral research investigates the UK’s migrant Chinese women’s mental health needs in seeking postnatal social support from peers through digital platforms. The research aims to provide insight into the UK’s understanding of, and thereby increase the quality of health services for, this group.

Prior to the doctoral research, Siyi worked for Animals Asia Foundation, which actively works on providing sanctuary for former farm bears, lobbying the Chinese government to end the farming of bears for bile, and increasing the awareness of animal welfare among the public in China.

Siyi is passionate about applying the results of academic research to practice and making an impact on health policy for migrants in the UK.
