In December 2019, we convened a youth symposium on ‘Commonwealth Futures: Youth Perspectives’. The event was in partnership with the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), the Commonwealth Secretariat and the British Council.
The symposium was a response to the fact that more than 60% of Commonwealth citizens are now aged under 30. It had a particular focus on ICT, innovation, and the Rule of Law. It aimed to give young people a platform to generate and present innovative ideas and recommendations for projects across the Commonwealth. The event involved members of the Commonwealth Youth-led Taskforce, who were preparing for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting that was due to take place in Rwanda in June 2020.
A summary report is available to download from this webpage. It summarises the impact and influence of the symposium gathering itself, and presents eight key findings and recommendations that emerged from discussions at the symposium, for ongoing consideration at an international level.
