Isabella is married to the nephew of Alathea Fitzalan Howard, who resided at Cumberland Lodge with her elderly uncle, Lord Fitzalan of Derwent, during the Second World War. She became close friends with the young Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret, who were living at Windsor Castle. Alathea passed away in 2001, and Isabella set about adapting her wartime diaries for publication. The result is The Windsor Diaries, published earlier this year by Hodder & Stoughton, and some of which has already been serialised in the national press. Isabella will be talking about what she learnt of Alathea's wartime experiences of living in the Great Park. The Windsor Diaries offers insights into Alathea’s childhood memories of growing up alongside the Princesses and life at Cumberland Lodge during the War, of Princess Elizabeth’s early affections for her future husband, and of her close relationship with the King and Queen. Format Guests are invited to join us from 5.45pm on Wednesday 24 November for refreshments, before taking a seat for the Conversation by 6.00pm. The Conversation series is hosted by our Chief Executive, Dr Ed Newell, and audience members have the chance to ask questions of the guest speaker. A reception will follow from 7.30 until 8.00pm, and tickets include a glass of wine for those attending in person. The event takes place in Flitcroft, the main conference room in The Mews at Cumberland Lodge, with a private live-stream to allow people with online tickets to watch from home. Tickets Tickets are priced at £10 for adults and £8 for students, including a glass of wine. Online tickets are also available for £5, to watch the Conversation from home via private link. All proceeds will help to cover the running costs of the event and support our wider charitable work. var exampleCallback = function() { console.log('Order complete!'); }; window.EBWidgets.createWidget({ // Required widgetType: 'checkout', eventId: '162786935105', iframeContainerId: 'eventbrite-widget-container-162786935105', // Optional iframeContainerHeight: 425, // Widget height in pixels.
