Writing retreats at Cumberland Lodge

Need some time to work on a special writing project? Book onto one of our individual self-guided writing retreats here at Cumberland Lodge located in Windsor Great Park. We are uniquely located in a historic former royal lodge surrounded in parkland with tranquillity and inspiration all around. Devote time to write, away from the pressures of work in a supportive environment with other like-minded guests.

These retreats are suitable for writers at all stages of their writing careers, from just starting out to established, regular writers, including academics, students, creative writers and professional authors.

What is included in the price?

  • Accommodation – sole occupancy with en-suite bathroom

  • Tour of the Lodge on arrival day

Meal and breaktimes

  • All meals are served in the communal dining rooms at set times – the standard service will be tray service, but occasionally this may be upgraded to table service, dependent on other group bookings on those dates.
  • Breakfast is buffet style options, cereals, dried fruit toppers, tea, coffee, juice and cooked breakfast.
  • Lunch is two courses – set main course, followed by cheese, biscuits and fresh fruit.
  • Dinner is a three course set menu.
  • Tea and coffee breaks are at set times, one in the morning and one in the afternoon with biscuits and healthy snacks.
  • All dietary requirements will be catered for separately – this information will be requested in advance of your visit.

Other information

  • Please note that these retreats are not facilitated – they are self-guided.
  • The building is wheelchair-accessible throughout, with a lift. There are also accessible bedrooms available upon request.
  • 1pm check in on the first day
  • 9am check out and 4pm departure on the last day (includes breakfast and lunch)
  • Cumberland Lodge is located in a safe, secluded environment. The site is covered by CCTV for security reasons. We ask that guests wear the lanyards supplied with their keycards at all times. Our external doors are locked, with access via electronic keycards only. Our bedrooms are lockable and equipped with safes for small personal items.
  • At the request of The Crown Estate, walking, running or cycling in Windsor Great Park is not permitted after dark. If you go outside between dusk and dawn, please stay within the grounds of Cumberland Lodge. There is no lighting in the wider Great Park, and we cannot be responsible for your safety once you are outside of our boundaries.
